The Expresión en Corto short film festival still hasn't held its opening ceremony for the Guanajuato portion, but festival activities are already underway.
Before 10:00 a.m., there were hundreds of film enthusiasts lined up for tickets to tonight's event, which will open this 12th year's event. Others seized the moment to watch some of the shorts being shown inside the State Auditorium. But without any doubt, what really made this feel like the festival was getting started in earnest was the kick off of the First University Rally.
Eight teams will try their luck at making a short film masterpiece in just 48 hours, with the setting of the city of Guanajuato and participation of important actors including Juan Manuel Bernal, Alvaro Guerrero, Silvia Navarro, Armando Hernández and Gustavo Sánchez Parra, as well as telenovela heartthrob of the moment, Sebastián Zurita.
Sarah Hoch said a few words, and at exactly 2:00 p.m., surrounded by balloons and pompons, each team with their equipment-stuffed vehicles took off on the signal by Arcelia Ramírez. Some great films are sure to await us next Friday at the State Auditorium.
And actress Meche Carreño was on hand to see off the brave participants as well, joining the boisterous crowd cheering the teams on to greatness.
